Although Elizabeth makes a powerful friend in the Marchioness of Englebury, the rivalry and jealousy among her ladyship's prestigious clique threatens to destroy the success of her new marriage. Friends, rivals, foes, wrong choices, and a duel - Fitzwilliam Darcy's life is never dull! Collins proposes marriage, Elizabeth Bennet is prepared to refuse him, but then she learns that her father is ill. In Abigail Reynolds' bold and playful retelling of the Austen classic, a devastated Mr. The narrator was very close to Jane Austen's voice and I enjoyed seeing from the point of view of multiple characters. While it seems, perhaps, unkind, to say that such a text is as true for this work as it is for the story for Shapiro intends it, I would be remiss as an honest reviewer not to make any mention of the numerous grammatical errors that affected my enjoyment of an otherwise clever and well-told tale. Elizabeth Bennet seeks a brief respite from the crowded ballroom only to find herself wrapped in the arms of the one man she despises - Mr. While the sharp-tongued duo of Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Caroline Bingley criticizes Elizabeth, the new Mrs.

Finally, I found the Elizabeth and Darcy characters in this book to be the closest to the originals in character to any of the fan fiction I have read. She kept so faithfully with Jane Austen's own ideal for her characters and even to her style of writing that I often forgot I wasn't reading an actual Jane Austen novel. She kept so faithfully with Jane Austen's own ideal for her characters and even to her style of writing that I often forgot I wasn't reading an actual Jane Austen novel. It's a funny and easy read though. Especially since Lizzy knows Caroline still hates her though she's civil. Every so often she almost gets it, but no quite.

He was so perfect that he started to seem unreal. When she finally meets Mr. Even when Lydia's crisis hits, it's almost an afterthought. I actually had to read the sentences two or three times before I understood what she meant to say, and what could have been conveyed a little easier. My biggest problem came at the end, it was just too pretty for me. As a result, although Austen makes it clear that Wickham was never welcome at Pemberly, he is not only invited, but given a home on the estate! She says that this was one of her goals in writing the book. Excessively Diverted was well written with minimal mistakes and got the tone right for a period piece. I'm sorry you can't reform Wickham just because you want to. Deep in despair, he travels in disguise to wartime France to seek out the spy responsible for her death. Over all, I think Shaprio was writing what she wantted the characters to be, not who they actually are. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the beginning. The timeline for Lady Catherine trying to ruin the Bennet's just doesn't work from the perspective of the original work. The formidable Lady Catherine de Bourgh makes little attempt to hide disdain for her nephew's wife. I do like how Elizabeth further developed in this version.

Note taken, we must move on to the delights of the story—and of them, there are far more than there is anything about which to be upset. Darcys Decision paints a vivid portrait of Regency society—full of romance, tragedy, humor, and intrigue. I actually had to read the sentences two or three times before I understood what she meant to say, and what could have been conveyed a little easier. But when the sudden and unexpected return of Elizabeth's sister Lydia brings alarming reports of seduction and blackmail that threaten the newlyweds' life together, Mr. Elizabeth and Darcy have been asked to raise not only their own child, but that of Lydia and Wickham by Mr and Mrs Bennet. I have to say this one ranks very high on my list of favorites. Both story lines fit Austen's style and make the book worth reading.

To view it, I've discovered that I don't like it when modern authors try to extend classics by writing a sequel. Can you imagine, say, Henry Crawford, acting that way? She quickly becomes close to her young cousin and uncle, though her aunt is a hard, demanding woman. In addition, there is still the sense of taking a microscope to society and finding its humor. Darcy's Decision paints a vivid portrait of Regency society--full of romance, tragedy, humor, and intrigue. Bennett traveling to the Lakes, which I can't imagine they would ever do for any reason.

He could lose himself in her fine eyes, but there's just one problem: She doesn't want him. Still, I will say, since Excessively Diverted, is fresh in my mind, that I did very much enjoy this book.

Book Review: Mr Darcy’s Decision by Juliette Shapiro « The Purple Booker

Darcy, soon faced with the most difficult decision of his life, will have to reveal his true character: Has his love for Elizabeth softened him or is his former aloofness about to be resurrected? The problem with this novel is that it is written in an entirely different style than its predessor. She needed to pick one or the other because as a result she has several inconsistencies. Shapiro should really find an editor who knows the proper use of punctuation. Alarming reports of seduction, blackmail and attempts to keep secret the news of another's confinement dampen even Elizabeth's notoriously high spirits. Darcy call her too plain, she dismissed him as being pompous and proud.

I'm surprised she didn't just increase her font and the size of her margins. I think,of all the sequels and re-do's that have been done of Pride and Prejudice, this one probably kept the characters truest to themselves. Foolish decisions and silent tongues conspire against Elizabeth, bringing accusations against her and those whom she holds dear, when a valuable pair of diamond earrings go missing from Rosings. I also felt let-down by scenarios that never amounted to anything.
