The book amounts to a critique of what Israel deems the overreaching of the Bush-Cheney efforts. After all, he had his tongue firmly planted deeply in his cheek for virtually every sentence through this 289-page romp. I enjoyed reading the fall and recovery of Morris and Rona's marriage as much as I enjoyed the unlikely friendship forged between Rona and a sleeper cell terrorist. If you're interested in politics, current affairs, technology, conspiracy theories, and all of the nonsense we need to put up with on a daily basis, but you have a sense of humor about it all, you'll love it, too! And a boring one at that. Congressman Steve Israel's tale of how the war on terror sweeps up an unassuming salesman from Long Island is both darkly hilarious and hilariously dark. I thought some of the funniest bits were when the members of various intelligence agencies rattled off about 50 acronyms in a row, each time having to explain what agency the acronyms stood for because no one could keep them all straight.

Just another chapter in the Scooter and Dick Show, a show that was fortunately canceled a decade ago. Chris Matthews had a hard time interviewing the author without laughing. The Global War on Morris is absolutely brilliant. . Unfortunately, for him, our federal guardians about 2 dozen acronyms strong draw different conclusions based on his actions. I think partly this was the intent, but in my mind they needed more fleshing out.
Rona may want to change the world; Morris wants the world to leave him alone. Somehow Israel has combined his access to top secret national security briefings with a finely tuned sense of the absurd as he skewers Washington bureaucrats, Machiavellian politicians, and a certain Darth Vader-like Vice President. And at first the book delivered. He was like the Public Access channel on cable television: there but rarely observed. An enjoyable rump through the Cheney admin that targeted anyone and everyone. The Global War on Morris has none of these. And it was always the same kind of kiss, more habit than affection.
Poor Morris gets blind sided just living his life going on trying to be below the radar of anyone around him. Oh, and keep George W. House of Representatives funnier than Steve Israel, I have not been made aware of their work. Too many punches pulled, too many opportunities skipped over. Israel is the latest New York politician to write a book.
Readers of any and every persuasion will enjoy this book immensely. The Global War on Morris is a bi-partisan skewer that will annoy both sides of the aisle. While the book was at times entertaining, I grew weary of the typical bleating of this sheep as he ridiculed the sheep dogs who keep him safe enough to remain in his Pollyanna dreamworld. Steve Israel is as funny, witty, and satirical on paper as he is in person. With characters and situations both real and imagined Cong.
